Chris Hames in charge
By Matthew Kermode
Bradford City WFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Hames as our new first team manager.
Chris is a UEFA B licensed coach, and joins us from FAWNL Northern Premier Division side Sheffield FC where he progressed from Development Team Manager to First Team Assistant Manager in his three years with the club. Chris has previously worked with Manchester Utd RTC, Crew Alexandra Ladies and Macclesfield Town, and now finds himself at the helm of Bradford City.
The club carried out an extensive and lengthy recruitment process, with over 15 applicants being whittled down to a final five, from which Chris shone through at interview and in the practical session he led with the players.
Chris is very clear about his immediate plans “the short term goal is about getting the squad all going in the same direction. We have a clear plan, that we fully believe will bring us the results we need to push us up the league. Along with that, it is all about everyone coming together and enjoying their football.”
When asked about the club’s recent history and rapid fall down the leagues, he knows there are challenges ahead, he said: “I want to turn the ship. We are not hiding from the fact that the last year and half hasn’t been the most successful, but also not kidding ourselves that we are going to change that overnight. My target is to regroup, and recharge towards building a good reputation for this club as a very competitive side”.
Chris will be coming in this week to meet the players and take his first training session, before taking his seat in the dugout for the home game against Liverpool Feds on December 1st . When asked about what he is most looking forward to about his new role, Chris said “Getting my hands dirty. I want to get involved with this club at all levels and work with everyone in helping driving its continued growth on and off the pitch.”
We would like to again repeat our thanks and best wishes to Steve Winterburn, who stepped down recently for personal reasons, and also say thank you to all the existing coaches who all pulled together during the interim period.
Comments from our chairperson
"I am delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Hames as our new Head Coach/1st Team Manager.
Chris has had a great deal of experience coaching football at various levels, and he has been a stalwart Assistant and Caretaker Manager at Sheffield FC Ladies for several years.
Following a rigorous recruitment process, for which there was a number of interested candidates, Chris has emerged as the person that we feel will has the right attributes to continue to build on the good work started by Steve Winterburn over the last months, and move the club forward in the right direction.
Chris is very keen to get started and we welcome him to Bradford.
I would also like to thank Charlotte Stuart for her help in keeping things moving during the difficult interim period."
