Bradford City Women 10 – 2 Thackley FC Ladies
By Chris Routledge

City were in West Riding County Cup action this week, having not played for over a month it
was great to be back on the pitch. City seem to be drawn against Thackley on a regular
basis, last season saw a 3-0 victory but manager Chris Hames clearly wanted to put on a
stronger showing this season.
Thackley are in the West Riding Premier League and with the local derby element they were
not going to roll over. So despite hitting the post twice and squandering several chances City
had to wait until the 40 th minute to open the scoring Charlotte Stuart forcing the ball home
from a Monika Stube cross. This didn’t deter Thackley though as within a couple of minutes
they hit City on the break and while the City defence stopped to appeal for an off side
decision the Thackley forward ran through to equalise slotting the ball neatly past Routledge
the City keeper. There was just enough time though for City to re-take the lead, more
pressure resulted in a Thackley own goal.

In the second half City looked to have found their rhythm more scoring three quick goals to
settle the tie and then regularly throughout the half with Harriet Jakeman, Ellie Prothero, Zoe
Roberts scoring and a hat trick from Falone Sumaili all contributing to the double figure scoreline.
Thackley did get a goal back and were unfortunate to have to go down to 10 players for
the final minutes of the game due to injury but it was still a convincing dominant
performance.

After the game manager Chris Hames seemed pleased with the second half in which City
played some really good flowing football and most importantly had that end result they had
lacked in the first half. The Bantams now progress to the quarter finals of the County Cup
that will take place in two weeks’ time at home to Brayton Belles, also from the West Riding
Premier League.
