Bradford City v Liverpool Feds

By Chris Routledge

The first game for new head coach Chris Hames was here at last, Chris had only had a couple of sessions with the team prior to the game but one thing was apparent, he wants to give some identity and put his own stamp on setting up the team. Chris was without a couple of influential players including club captain Zoe Roberts so a couple of Reserve players made the bench.

This was also rainbow laces day for the teams, an FA initiative promoting equality and diversity that was supported by both teams.

From the kick off City looked well organised, the pressing in midfield was higher up the pitch and City had the first couple of chances, Masie Norde with a fine 20-yard strike being well saved by the Feds keeper and Charlotte Stuart picking her way through a crowded Feds defence, again to be denied by the keeper. Throughout the first half there were half-chances for both teams but the only goal was for Feds on 40 minutes, a cross from the left was put in from close range at the back post, keeper Aimee Routledge got finger tips to the shot but it trickled into the net.

The second half went very much the same as the first with chances at both ends. The closest from City saw a strike from Falone Sumaili agonisingly roll past the wrong side of the post with the keeper stranded. City did tire towards the end of the game and Feds pressed for a second but there was no way past Routledge as she pulled off a couple of very good saves.

City can take a lot from this game, the midfield set up and competed well and there was some very strong challenges from Stuart and Jakeman putting them on the front foot, the defence also looked tighter with a stand out performances from Sophie Parish and Charlotte Sales forming a very good centre half partnership.
