'A' Team Stats & Match Reports

10th May 2007

Bradford City Women  1-2 Howden Clough  League

Olivia 28

A disappointing end to a mixed season for Bradford. This was genuinely a match that Bradford should have won. Olivia put City in front in the first half and looked very comfortable for 85 minutes of the game. Costly missed chances would have put Howden Clough out of reach of getting back into the game, but City lost the match in the dying minutes. Howden Clough took advantage of a loose ball on the edge of the City area when a well saved shot dropped at the feet of a Clough player who tapped in. Then in the last few seconds City failed to clear a well taken free kick and Cloughs centre forward headed home. An very disappointing end to the season, but the teams body language and mood looks good for next season.

10th May 2007

Bradford City Women  1-2 Leeds City Vixens  League

Yazz 38

A great response from City after the 9-0 hammering just a week ago.

Good encouraging individual performances as well as team work showed throughout the 90 minutes. With the league title out of reach for Bradford, it was agreed that all players would get a run out and therefore unsettling the system slightly just after half time proved to be costly regarding points but very encouraging overall for next season.

Howden Clough Ladies FC  9-0  Bradford City Women   League

A night to forget..........................................................

22th April 2007

Bradford City Women  2-1  Silsden Ladies FC.  League

Pops 34

O.G  40

Another good performance from City after yet another new look formation but this time finished as victors. The first half saw City looking and playing very comfortably with Pops taking advantage of a poor goal kick relaxed and composed side footed the ball past the stranded keeper. A greasy surface made playing conditions tricky with the ball skidding off the surface at pace, put City looked to have total control. The City keeper, Kim was only called upon once in the first half and what a save it was diving to her right pushing the ball around the right hand post. Good pressure from Pops brought City their second goal when she didn’t give up on a 50-50 ball with the keeper causing mayhem in the area ending in one of the Silsden defenders netting into her own net. The second half witnessed a mix performance, with Silsden pushing on to try and get back into the game. City conceded a direct free kick just outside their area which was struk well and found the back of the net. A nervy 10 minutes saw City making silly mistakes, but soon got control of the game back and came out 2-1 winners on the day against a much improved Silsden team.

19th April 2007
Bradford City Women  1-2  Silsden Ladies FC.  League
Alice Rogan 83.

First night match for City ended in frustration. With a new look formation City should have been 2 nil up in the first ten minutes and gone on to win this match comfortably, but it wasn’t to be.

Knowing that Silsden had strengthened their team recently City knew they had to be on their guard and to be fair they were. With a strong back for of Jess, Hannah, Mel and Laura Gadd they never looked like conceding and the relentless hard work in midfield of Pops, Nicky and Vicky Wood feeding the front three of Benji, Olivia and Alice Rogan it appeared to all who watched that it wasn’t that City were going to win but just how many goals they were going to win by. City attacked the Silsden goal repeatedly but could not open their account in the first half. Against the run of play early in the second half City were caught out not clearing out of defence. Frustration set in with City practically camped in the Silsden half trying every way they knew to convert their fluent play into a goal but yet again in the 75th minute conceded against the run of play. Time and time again chances went a stray but eventually City got the ball in the back of the Silsden net with a cross come shot from the far right side from Alice Rogan in the 83rd minute caught the keeper stranded. City never gave up and still created several more chances to try and get something from this fixture but it wasn’t to be. The final score was 2-1 to Silsden. After the final whistle tempers flared towards the referee from a couple of the City players voicing their opinions about a lot of his comments made during the game, but that wasn’t the factor in this loss it was all down to City’s poor finishing that cost them the 3 points that they should have won. City can rectifying their frustration at the weekend when the two teams meet again.

15th April 2007

Keighley  2-1  Bradford City.  Friendly

                       Chelsea 79

8th April 2007

Farsley Celtic  1-2  Bradford City.  'Valley Parade Memorial Tournament'

                              Jane  18

                              Vicky 23

Two fine goals scored by Jane and Vicky Wood were enough to retain the 'Valley Parade Memorial Tournament' Cup. Played on 3rd generation astro turf in front of a large crowd Bradford City put on a great exhibition of football in the first half, but appeared to drop a gear in the second half conceding a soft goal but were never looked in any danger of losing.

1st April 2007
Bradford City Women  1-0  Kirklees Ladies.  League
Pops 79.

At their fifth attempt Bradford finally got their deserved reward beating Kirklees Ladies in a thrilling 90 minutes which had it all. After four very close encounters with Kirklees this season, this was their last meeting and it was a nail biter to say the least right up until the final whistle, but Bradford came out jubilant with a great goal from Pops. All the players got a pat on their back for individual and team performances. As well as scoring the only goal in the game Pops also helped out in defence, with a  spectacular goal line clearance earlier in the second half. Bradford could quite easily of shared the spoils if she hadn’t have been in the right place at the right time!

25th March 2007
Farsley Celtic Ladies FC   2-6   Bradford City Women. League
                                                 Nicky(2)Pen.
                                                 Jane(2)
                                                 Olivia
                                                 Pops

On what can only be described as a cow field, Bradford had to adapt quickly to get on top of a natural home advantage situation away to Farsley Celtic Ladies. After falling behind early on Bradford soon settled down and over powered Farsley with their flowing passing game and finished 6-2 winners.
